Experience matters

It was Lucy Bradley’s 40th birthday celebration last weekend. If you don’t know Lucy, you should: fit, fab and yes, forty. Anyway, in searching for a card, I came across one which said, “I’m not 40, I’m 18 with 22 years experience.” The point is…well, that IS the point really: experience.

By the way, 40 years ago, I’d already experienced college, been in jail twice (nothing serious mind you, in case you’re worried – not having my draft card and wearing a Nehru jacket with hot pants – they weren’t ready for me in Detroit back in the late 60’s). Oh, I also moved continents and won my first advertising award. Lucy respects experience, which is why she hires me to write her copy for Plug Communications (she also likes the fact that I’ve been in jail for wearing hot pants).

Copywriters (Freelance Copywriter Dubai) like myself, bring experience to the table, which is added value for money. That’s not to say younger copywriters can’t offer a fresh perspective, they just can’t offer that added value…yet. It’s like choosing a fast-fix McDonalds or a roast dinner with all the trimmings (which is what Lucy served for her 40th birthday). But I’m not just waving the flag for experienced copywriters, I’m waving the flag for experience itself.

I couldn’t give Lucy that first card (as ironically, it’s been experienced before), or the one that said, “40 isn’t old if you’re a tree”. So it was the above card, which implied more. Because, the word to the world is: here comes the experienced version.
